Views of Latin America and the Middle East. ca. 1880-ca. 1899.

Collection includes 81 slides of Latin America, mostly published by Fredreick Gutekunst of Philadelphia. Countries represented are Mexico, Panama, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, and Peru. Most of the Latin American images are unidentified as to specific site. There are 15 views of biblical sites; all but one are handcolored slides published by Williams, Brown & Earle, Inc., Philadelphia. Also included are a view of Galileo's house in Florence, Italy, a view of a Boston construction yard, and two views of the Midway plaisance at the World's Columbian Exposition, Chicago, 1893.

The World's Columbian Exposition, also known as the Chicago World’s Fair, was organized in celebration of the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s landing in America.
